Another family weekend

This past weekend, the weekend before Thanksgiving, I got to go home to spend time with my family. On Saturday evening, my sister and I went to a really big church in Lancaster called LCBC. afterwards, we ate dinner at an amazing restaurant called Jeffries (i think). it was the restaurant from the lancaster arts hotel. i wanted to share some pictures cause it was really beautiful and modern inside.

On Sunday, we also attended my dad's "farewell" party from his doctor's office. it felt more like a funeral to me; everyone was sad and waiting in a "receiving" line. perhaps i will post some pictures if i can find some later.

Family Weekend

This weekend was extra special because I got a visit from my parents and grandparents! Sometimes newark seems like its worlds away from lancaster. Having them here made it feel like home was much closer. We got to go to an exciting football game (we won!) and then out to dinner. Afterwards we went to a volleyball game where I had two good friends on the team (they also won!) It was a wonderful weekend, and such an awesome treat to hang out with them.

Shane and Shane!

I wanted to add this picture because it is really one of my favorites from the year. here i am with my friend gretchen and the Shanes from the band shane and shane. you might not have heard of them but they are one of my favorite groups. they came to delaware this year and put on a performance that really engaged the audience, but instead of a concert-type deal, it was more of an awesome worship service led by these two guys. it was incredible and definitely a highlight of my semester to meet them. (for anyone who cares, shane bernard (on the right) is engaged to bethany dillon, another well-known Christian musician!)

Mid-Semester

today was my first orientation meeting for india. basically i spent 3 hours in a classroom learning a little bit about india and the feminist movement there, as well as techniques for creating podcasts. i'm especially excited for the multimedia aspect of this trip, but to be honest, i'm pretty nervous about the whole "feminist thing," not knowing where i fit in on the scale of the "woman question." i guess this trip will help me to figure it out.

after talking to my brother on the phone today and sara-beth the other day, it made me realize how far away we really are from each other. while technology works wonders, it can't make me understand what they're going through day-to-day. and it certainly can't send a hug from here to japan and back again.

on a lighter note, here are some pictures from my fall semester...being home for the fair, apple picking with laura and jackie, the beautiful nature i was surrounded by on the intervarsity retreat, and just a fun one of me

an awesome verse from my favorite book of the bible:

And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
-Colossians 1:10-14

job-hunting

after an entire summer of "searching" for work, i finally got a job! i work cleaning contents of burnt houses. i am on week two of two. its definitely more tiring than i thought work would be and i have a new respect for manual laborers. its really hard work and many of the people i work with have no other choice if they want to support their family. i feel very guilty that i don't need to work to survive, but it has helped my understanding of the value of a dollar. my dad would be happy with that i think.
